Meryem Yildiz is a poet, translator and visual artist of Turkish and French Canadian descent based in Tiohtià:ke (Montreal). Her work has appeared in literary magazines, multidisciplinary events, and publications across Canada and abroad. In 2022, she won The Malahat Review’s Far Horizons Award for Poetry as well as the Quebec Writers’ Federation’s carte blanche Prize. With a background in psychology and translation, Meryem’s practice draws deeply from the human experience and the complex interplay between language, culture and the psyche. She is a poetry editor at LBRNTH, a queer literature and arts magazine. Backbone is her first book, to be published by Guernica Editions in 2025.
